Event: Champagne and ... Shoes?

Date: Wednesday, May 3, 2006

Location: Sole Search, 801 Washington St, Hoboken, NJ

Time: 7:00 PM

Hello, Ladies! We’re doing something a bit different this month and will be combining our monthly get-together with something else very near and dear to our hearts —shopping!! For our May gathering, instead of our usual haunt, we will be meeting at Sole Search located in Hoboken on the corner of 8th & Washington (entrance off of 8th) at our usual appointed time of 7:00 p.m. Ahh, but do not fret my fellow WV members, Mimi will still be providing us with her delightful delectables, so come hungry and bring your credit card for some serious shopping. Eunice, the owner of Sole Search, has agreed to provide us with a 20% discount off everything in the store, so come prepared to take advantage of this special WV discount.

This month’s theme is sparkling wine or Champagne. Many people refer to any and every sparkling wine as Champagne, but there is an important distinction to be made between the two. Quite simply, sparkling wine is any effervescent wine. True Champagne, however, is only produced in the Champagne region of France in the classic méthode champenoise.

When buying your bubbly, you’ll want to keep in mind that the sweetness of Champagne and most sparkling wine is measured as: Extra Brut - totally dry, Brut - dry, Extra Dry - medium dry (go figure, on that one??), Sec - slightly sweet, Demi-Sec - fairly sweet, and Doux - sweet. To learn more about sparkling wine and Champagne before you venture out to find one, check out the article entitled Adding a Bit of Sparkle on our new website!

Cheers,
Janelle

Rules

Wine: Champange or Sparkling Wine

Year: Any

Bottle Price: $25 or under

Challenge: The challenge is to bring a Champange or sparkling wine that is made in the Méthode Champanoise! French wines marked Champagne are always made in this method, and most other sparkling wines made in this traditional fashion will proudly display Méthode Champenoise or Méthode Traditionelle on the label.

Other: As always, in addition to bringing the designated themed bottle, please bring $20 for the fabulous food that Mimi always prepares for us.
